This allows you to own a ‘share’ in a property and the remainder of the property is then owned by a Housing Association. You will be required to pay rent on the proportion owned by the Housing Association, in addition to your mortgage payments. In some circumstances, you can purchase more of the property at a later stage, this is called ‘ staircasing’.
